theme of our group show

We have agreed to join together to do a show in the Y.S. Arts Council space in mid-June through mid July - wherever YSAC may be since that is in flux presently. The theme of our show is 'Exuberance' and we hope to each put 2-3 pieces in.....we will be joining the YSArts Council as a group, supporting the arts here in our home town.

Paint/Create together anew this coming monday, 10/3, at our usual space at 9:30. I'm bringing a scarecrow project to work on - y'all are welcome to help out or work on your own things...

Also - fyi - we would LOVE to have your help cutting apples on Thursday, 10/6, at the church for the annual Apple Fest at Street Fair. We will cut 3-5 bushels of apples from 9:30 til lunch which is provided too!!! (salad and pizza) If you would prefer to play with flour and sugar, we also need people to mix up the crisp makings and put them together.

Thanks for any help you can give. It is part of what keeps the lights burning at the church : )

We will meet on Monday, Sept. 12 instead of the 5th because of Labor Day. Bring your supplies, ideas, projects and paintings too, if you'd like, to show them to the group.

Here is a photo of the Andy Goldsworthy 'Serpentine Wall' that stands in the Storm King Scupture Park in NYC...an awesome place to visit if you have the opportunity.

We were graced with a lovely young guest this month, a friend from Japan that Toni brought. Aya is quite talented and belongs to an art club at home. She and Toni worked from a photo that Aya took on her camera. Aya also took some amazing food photos...

Sally Palmer has been a wonderful part of our group but she is moving on, come mid-May, to PA. We will miss her lovely personality, beautiful and soulful work, her contributions to our conversations about art and life. She also generously contributed lots of art materials to those who could be there in April. The kids in the Sunday School at the church (and teachers) are grateful too for papers, brushes, etc.

In addition, we'll celebrate Sue Rudolfs' birthday. Those that can....

Several artists who regularly come paint first mondays took part in the WOWs Mark Mehaffey Watercolor workshop Mar. 7-10, held in the big room of the 1st Presbyterian. We all were pushed outside our usual boundaries...doing design, color, value and shape work with our compositions. We experimented with realistic as well as abstract modes, working to think about making the artwork powerful, meaningful and ....ok- beautiful too. Here are a few photos...

Today, the group worked on a painting to enhance the wood wall that is in the sanctuary of the church during construction... We each worked on our own projects as well and shared insights, criticisms, etc.
We will meet the last Monday of February instead of the first monday of March since many of us will be attending a workshop with Mark Mahaffey, put on by Western Ohio Watercolor group the first week of March.
The quilt in the top is by Pam Geisel and hung in the 'Flower Power' show January at the Emporium.

I can't believe it's August already! We are still meeting 9:30-ish tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 2 to paint/draw/critique/show our work. Come on down to the First Presbyterian back room.

We had talked about going on a "field trip" after the art time to Johanna's house to see the mosaic she's working on, but she has an appoinment tomorrow, so we'll go another time.

An artistic lunch

Last Thursday, March 11, some of the Monday Morning Artists went to Seasons Bistro in Springfield for lunch. Judy Paden, an artist that some of us know from the Fairborn Art Association, was having an art show there and was going to be there on Thursdays at lunch time.

The food was wonderful and the paintings inspiring. The photo is of us with Judy in front of her watercolor painting of an ice cream sundae titled "My Kingdom for a Spoon," which is why we are all holding spoons.

Judy's paintings will be up until the end of March. Season's Bistro is located at 28 S. Limestone St. in Springfield, Ohio.
