A note from Sally and June meeting coming up!

Sally - collaging her beautiful cards
We recently heard from Sally, who has now relocated to Philadelphia area.  She says that she misses us - and oh my, how we miss her smile and creative spirit.  She came every time we met, even when we were interviewed by Fox45.  She also helped take care of Mitzi when her health was failing.  She may have helped put together the 'Mitzi Retrospective' that hung at Antioch College.

Sally says that she is creating as we speak!  She is mostly in the pottery studio with all sorts of other opportunities to paint, quilt, weave, etc.  She regularly swims laps and is very happy!  Hurray

We meet next on Monday, June 3....come ready to share your latest and greatest and create together!
Libby will be attending a workshop with OWS but hopes you all gather and have a great time! xox

A young artist and an Evolving Embroidery

Sue's newest creation...
Sue, a member of MMA,  is designing her newest piece using specified types of stitches that her embroidery group is assigned monthly in a square format. The piece will become a box cover when completed.  Sue has extensive knowledge of color, design and embroidery so her creations are indeed unique and beautiful. If you look closely, you will see the insects that are exploring the flowers in her design.
Pam broutht a beautiful quilt that she is doing the finishing touches on, a commission.  Mary brought a colored pencil piece that she is working on and shared a resource for obtaining inexpensive yet quality prints.  Ruth brought a few more of the materials from our recent show at the Yellow Springs Arts Council gallery and continued work on a lovely pastel.  Ann, Toni and Rebecca came to kibitz, visit and work a bit.  We were also joined by Yuki who worked on small paintings and shared info about upcoming workshops with WOWs.  Sandy Kinnemon came and did some watercolor work and Libby (me : ) did what I could to work a bit, inbetween conversations and queries. Lastly, we were joined by a sweet Mom, Elizabeth with babe in arms.

Next meeting will be the SECOND monday in September, due to Labor Day falling on the first Monday.  See you then, if not sooner!

Ruth found out that Yuki has been included in a juried show in Cincinnati!  www.cincyart.com - Congratulations Yuki!

A Visitor from Japan to MMA

A fine time in August...all working on their own unique pieces and discussing getting a group show together for a spring showing at the YS Arts Council space
Thank you Mary for getting our space negotiated and Pam for working on publicity organization.
We were graced with a lovely young guest this month, a friend from Japan that Toni brought.  Aya is quite talented and belongs to an art club at home. She and Toni worked from a photo that Aya took on her camera.  Aya also took some amazing food photos...

Here is a photo of the two with their finished pieces along with the reference photo that Aya took.
Also - Please note that our next meeting will be Monday, Sept. 12 due to the Labor Day holiday!

Mark MeHaffey workshop at the church

Several artists who regularly come paint first mondays took part in the WOWs Mark Mehaffey Watercolor workshop Mar. 7-10, held in the big room of the 1st Presbyterian.  We all were pushed outside our usual boundaries...doing design, color, value and shape work with our compositions.  We experimented with realistic as well as abstract modes, working to think about making the artwork powerful, meaningful and ....ok- beautiful too.  Here are a few photos...
