Painted Rocks from many brushes

We painted rocks this month (and last month) to place around town with the hope that they will lift the spirits of those that find them, bring a smile, perhaps inspire someone to create.  We enjoyed learning about this project from Ron.  There are many subjects on the rocks - small scenes, flowers, stripes, children, etc.  Here are a few of them!   Several have already migrated to town or there-abouts.
The original project started in Cleveland to commemorate a beloved child with joy instead of sorrow.  Friends who are artists here in YS are making them as a response to surviving cancer....people create for many reasons.   I hope you'll make one and spread the smiles!

Come some first monday and join the fun/bring your creative spirit and supplies to First Presbyterian from 9:30 til about noon.

Meet to Create, paint and converse about Art - Monday 3/2

Come one, come all - we bring our materials and artistic spirit to the table and hopefully inspire each other to continue the quest to make art in whatever form we choose.  I will bring the paintings I made while on vacation and maybe we'll feel a tiny bit warmer, even if we are still in deep freeze here in Ohio!

We will also discuss our upcoming show at the Yellow Springs Arts Council - in July - 'Reflections'.  Mary came up with this theme and we think it will result in a wonderful exhibit.  It can be interpreted in so many ways, literal or figuratively.  If you have finished a piece, bring it along to share.

Here is an art installation by children of St Croix in the Agriculture Fair about bees and helping them thrive....

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Reflecting on our Future and Past

We met today - August 4 - to paint, sew, sketch....and to plan for a future show.   9 people came today and we will have others rejoin us once school starts and their kiddos are back in class

We will have an exhibit at the Yellow Springs Arts Council in July 2015.  The gallery is situated on Corry St, beside 'Would You, Could You' and is open W-Sun 1-4pm.

We've decided on the title "Reflections" at the suggestion of Mary C.  "Reflections" can be interpreted literally - an artist's representation of water reflections - or it can be widened.  Our show will reflect 'our individuality through our art.'  Our group works in a wide variety of mediums and we inspire each other to stretch our wings, to teach and help others express themselves artistically.  Many of us will teach mini workshops during the

We also discussed our beginnings...we first started meeting in each others homes or at local places to paint/create.  Sue R. introduced the concept of 'A Drawing a Day' to help us incorporate art more fully into our lives.  This led us to each put more thought, effort and creativity into our art.  Many of us began for the first time, to consider ourselves to be artists.  We collectively think this was 2008 or so.  We've continued to meet, to do group art shows, to help others learn to keep art in their lives.  We now meet at the First Presbyterian Church on Xenia Ave. in Yellow Springs - generally the first Monday (except holidays - 2nd Monday) from 9:30 - Noon.   Come on down with your art materials and creative spirit!.

Here is a delightful little dog by Peter Clark - your art fun for the day......

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Good Day all....

Hopefully you can come paint, create, discuss art this coming Monday, Feb 3....9:30-noon.  I will bring this canvas (which isn't actually curved as in the picture!).  It is a garden - waiting for more flowers that people will create in honor of a loved one who has or is fighting cancer....   Flowers can be about 3x3 or 4x4 inches - I originally said 3x3 but it's probably best for there to be a variety of sizes.  If you would like, you may include a name on your flower and a note about it that I'll put into a notebook to accompany the canvas.  It will hopefully go to the Children's Medical Center or a similar place to bring joy to children or others who are suffering.

It is in tribute to my sister-in-law Vanessa who was a light to all and asked me to 'pay it forward'.

A note from Sally and June meeting coming up!

Sally - collaging her beautiful cards
We recently heard from Sally, who has now relocated to Philadelphia area.  She says that she misses us - and oh my, how we miss her smile and creative spirit.  She came every time we met, even when we were interviewed by Fox45.  She also helped take care of Mitzi when her health was failing.  She may have helped put together the 'Mitzi Retrospective' that hung at Antioch College.

Sally says that she is creating as we speak!  She is mostly in the pottery studio with all sorts of other opportunities to paint, quilt, weave, etc.  She regularly swims laps and is very happy!  Hurray

We meet next on Monday, June 3....come ready to share your latest and greatest and create together!
Libby will be attending a workshop with OWS but hopes you all gather and have a great time! xox

Yuki Hall brought her hand dyed fabrics                                  and books to give away! Thank you Yuki  <3 h2="">
Today, we got together as usual - some coming in late, some arriving first and wondering if they had the day right.....but we all had projects we were pursuing and art items, classes and news to share.  Many of us will go to the demo tomorrow night at Fairborn Art Assoc. to learn about clay mosaic making.  Yuki also says that she will be bringing more of her fabrics to share.

Pam and friends meet at the 1 Presby on the first tuesday of the month to learn new art quilt techniques together so these fabrics will definitely help with their work.  I took a few as well since I am making birds for the Nature Show in Bellbrook, mid March.

A young artist and an Evolving Embroidery

Sue's newest creation...
Sue, a member of MMA,  is designing her newest piece using specified types of stitches that her embroidery group is assigned monthly in a square format. The piece will become a box cover when completed.  Sue has extensive knowledge of color, design and embroidery so her creations are indeed unique and beautiful. If you look closely, you will see the insects that are exploring the flowers in her design.
Pam broutht a beautiful quilt that she is doing the finishing touches on, a commission.  Mary brought a colored pencil piece that she is working on and shared a resource for obtaining inexpensive yet quality prints.  Ruth brought a few more of the materials from our recent show at the Yellow Springs Arts Council gallery and continued work on a lovely pastel.  Ann, Toni and Rebecca came to kibitz, visit and work a bit.  We were also joined by Yuki who worked on small paintings and shared info about upcoming workshops with WOWs.  Sandy Kinnemon came and did some watercolor work and Libby (me : ) did what I could to work a bit, inbetween conversations and queries. Lastly, we were joined by a sweet Mom, Elizabeth with babe in arms.

Next meeting will be the SECOND monday in September, due to Labor Day falling on the first Monday.  See you then, if not sooner!

Ruth found out that Yuki has been included in a juried show in Cincinnati!  www.cincyart.com - Congratulations Yuki!
